ENABLING people to stay at home

Why is this a priority?

A study in 2010 found that 66% of people want to die at home. Most people die after a long period of frailty and both they and their family carers need support for many months as they near the end of their life.

What we’ve done so far:
  • Run a Hospice at Home nursing service for nearly a decade that currently supports 650 people a year to stay at home
  • Paid for a respite care bed 52 weeks a year in a nursing home enabling family carers to have a planned break
  • Run outpatient clinics to help people deal with physical problems like breathlessness, fatigue, anxiety and pain
Campaign Hospice Reach will enable us to:
  • Provide access to electronic patient records for Hospice at Home nurses
  • Provide a fully furnished respite care bedroom in the new Hospice
  • Furnish and equip the new Hospice at Home base
  • Provide a night sitting service seven nights a week
  • Improve out of hours support to families in crisis
